John Brown Interview w/ On Rap Radio

So it's been a minute, told you guys i was gonna have this to you awhile back but with the success of John Brown's latest internet single dude got caught with a bunch of stuff, its all good better late then never. We'll be keeping you up to date with all the latest John Brown & Ghetto Revival updates so stay tuned, definitely more to come !
ORR: So Brown it's no secret i'm a big fan of you're music, but for the people who are arent as familliar let me ask. Where are you from & where do you currently reside?
John Brown: What's pimpulatin bro? I'm originally from Northern California and I currently reside in Brooklyn, NY.
ORR: I've been following you since the white rapper show, in which you were clearly the most talented and business minded there. How do you feel about you're whole experience. Weren't you worried that being on there would potentially damage youre chances of being seen as a legitimate artist?
John Brown: I learned at a young age that to be a successful artist one has to be willing to take risks. I completely understood the risks associated with a television show. But I also feel that the industry is changing and now so maqny artists are trying to get that TV exposure. I also had a distinct strategy on the show, which helped me to market myself and the music well beyond the show.
ORR: In all honesty, Did you throw the show? You dropped bangers throughout the whole show, club type hits. Then on the last performance when you knew you'd have to rock a crowd you performed you're most lyrical song yet. Strategy or coincidence?
John Brown: I didn't lose intentionally. There were alot of factors surrounding my decision to perform "Car Wars" and I don't regret the decision. I was trying to take advantage of the exposure to drop a song that had more depth than some of the earlier songs I did. But honestly, I don't think it would have mattered what song I did. They weren't trying to give my villainous ass that 100K. lol
ORR: You're most recent mixtape King of Da Burbz was hosted by DJ Big Mike. How did that come about?
John Brown: Big Mike had been showing me alot of love and we were planning on linking up for this tape for a minute. Once the timing was right , we just made it happen. Shout out to Big Mike for being an original GR Rider.
ORR: You're quickly climbing the ranks of the underground / online hip hop scene. For all the upcoming artists such as myself who may be curious
what does it take to get John Brown on a track? Or shit...what does it take to be down with GR?
John Brown: I'm an open minded person and I'm down to work with anyone who's making quality product. And to be down with GR is really a mentality - to be Revival Minded. If you're about uplifting yourself and your community then you're on that revivalism.
ORR:Since you're Cali born and raised how did you end up in New York?
John Brown: I met Dred Scott in California and he's originally from New York. My family's also originally from NY and I knew there were alot of opportunities out here in terms of the entertainment industry. I did some work out here over the years and then eventually moved out here permanently. I still go back to Cali often but my homebase is Brooklyn.
ORR: Whats up with you're label situation?
John Brown: Right now we operate as an indie label - creating our own music, videos, promotion and distribution. We've had offers from several labels but they were all 360 deals with attempts to grab publishing. So we felt it was best to hold off, build the brand and get this independent money for now, and I love it! But if the right company steps to us correctly then we might venture out.
ORR: We did an interview with Ya Boy recently and i asked him about the track that you guys had done so i want you're perspective on that now. Howas it working with Ya Boy? And more importantly how did it feel when he said "Hallelujah Holla Back" ? :)
John Brown: I think Ya Boy is a really underrated artist. I think in general west coast artists are slept on by the industry. We linked up through a mutual producer and he blessed the track. Hearing him say "hallelujah holla back" just re-confirmed how many people witnessed this Revivalism.
ORR: It seems like you had a pretty large amount of success with you're latest track Lay The Pipe (Sarah Palin), what benefits have you reaped from this track?
John Brown: I was pleasently surprised at the reaction to the Sarah Palin song. I think it just struck a chord with people because she was such a fucking joke and treated Americans like they were the stupidest creatures on Earth. Luckily people caught the irony in the song and I was able to reach a whole new audience that had previously been unfamiliar with my work.
ORR: I also heard you just recently got you're own blog, how did that come up?
John Brown: Yeah Complex magazine has been showing me a lot of love. They were brainstorming on a way for me to have something more consistent with their site. When the Sarah Palin song came out, it made sense to focus the blog on politics. So now every Thursday it's "Politickin' with John Brown". Shoutout to everyone over at Complex.
ORR: Whats next for you and Ghetto Revival and John Brown?
John Brown: I just dropped a new digital album called "John Brown Or Die: A Revival You Can Believe In". The productions is incredible and I really grew as a lyricist so definetely check that out. I'll be filming a video in California for one of the songs on there "Just Another Day". The video should drop in December. I'm also finishing up a new mixtape called "Burb Life", which has some huge records and should be dropping in the next few months. The Revival is stacking up some classic material as well and we're just getting the timing right to drop the next GR project.
ORR: Thanks for taking out the time to answer all these questions. It's all love over here. I like to think of www.OnRapRadio.com as sort of an unofficial headquarters for Ghetto Revival music. Make sure to break us off with the latest :) hopefully this isnt the only interview we'll do with you and we can continue to grow spread revivalism across thenation.Let's get it pimpulatin ! any last words?
John Brown: I just want to thank you for showing me and the whole Revival consistent support! You've definetely recognized that alot of hard work has gone into this company and I appreciate the awareness. Keep it pimpulatin!
